Anticipate the Kickback of a Curveball
One of the most important things to remember about blocking curveballs is that they do not act the same as other pitches.
As catchers, we can't afford to "get around" these type of pitches, as we need to account for the way the angular rotation of the ball. That leads to the ball kicking back off the ground. If we don't adjust for the spin, the ball will not hit us in the middle and will ricochet off to the side or behind us.
